Web Mistress Lost

March 5th, 2010

new-exec_judy

This is my final post to Gender Mosaic.

I started this group a little over twenty years ago, to find and link up with a few kindred souls like me.

For the first two years, I held meetings at my place and the group was much different than it is today.

There where no Bylaws, Presidents or Committees - just friends.

Today there seems to be so much in-fighting! That did not happen then. What did happen was that lifetime friendships were forged.

What is not widely known is that I left the group because of one member. We had five or so at that time and I felt it better to lose one than risk all.

I rejoined GM in 2008, two years ago, when Kelly came to me and asked for help.

The group was, at that time, being run by a group of Transsexuals who were spending large sums of group money and providing little to the members.

A carefully-placed notice on the E-List started the group talking and the result was, as expected, a change in management.

I worked effectively with the current Executive until Christmas of last year.  At that time an alleged e-mail breach was discovered. The root cause remains undiscovered. In fact, it’s not even known if there was actually a breach at all.

The result of the uproar, however, has been to ostracize me and make me a leper to the group.

Starting with Lacy May, then Maggie James, and now me, there has been a systematic campaign to discredit and slur group members who have stood up to the current executive on key issues.

Those who have challenged the Exec have been Judged, found Guilty and Punished in a kangaroo court, by a self-serving, dictatorial Executive. Or, rather, by two members of the Exec who currently run the show.

Power politics, pushing personal agendas and empire building are not what Gender Mosaic is supposed to be about! It’s supposed to be about what the GM Mission Statement says: “…a safe, supportive, non-judgmental environment where individuals can feel free to express themselves and pursue personal growth. We seek to empower our members through knowledge and educate the community in which we live through outreach activities.”

The current Exec has totally lost sight of the group’s core mandate. And that’s a tragedy!

I hold no ill will to anyone and hope the best for the group.

We get in the order of 25 thousand visitors a year to our web site.

This is not because of the curent EXEC or any to come.

Your Web Mistresses have made this happen.

In closing… Another twenty years of banishment is a small price for me to pay. Perhaps it’s for the best. My departure forced the group together the first time I left. Maybe my departure will have the same effect now.

To Whom It May Concern:

Pink Triangle Services (PTS) is currently conducting a transgender and transsexual needs assessment within the Ottawa region, in part of a larger program: PTS Transaction. This assessment concentrates on the gaps and needs within the transgender and transsexual community, focusing specifically on medical, legal, counsel and social services.

We are hoping to reach as many transgender and transsexual individuals in Ottawa as possible and would like to ask if you would pass this survey on through mailing lists in which individuals identify as or have transgender/transsexual experiences.

The first part of this assessment is a 41-question survey, to be filled out online. All answers will remain anonymous unless participants choose to leave their contact information, which they can do so either in the space provided within the survey or separately via email.

The survey is password protected. Please type in the password provided above after clicking the link to the survey.

We are planning to conduct key informant and focus group interviews in late February and early March based on the results of this survey. Individuals who are interested in participating in these sessions may contact the PTS Transaction program at the email listed here: pts.transaction@gmail.com or the executive director of PTS at  pinktriangle@bellnet.ca

Thank you
